[originally published May 30, 2008] —> NOTICE THIS ORIGINAL DATE! I’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS FOR A WHILE! (And this was BEFORE the crash in October, 2008.)
“This has GOT to stop!” Thus spake my beloved grandmother on the occasion of her 80th birthday, as she craned her imperious, permanent-waved head toward the car’s power window to criticize my father. Several members of the family were packed into two cars and had discovered yet a third Houston restaurant to be closed.
Grandmother’s words were never more pertinent than now: This talk of recession has got to stop!
Every headline reeks of havoc, recession, human-rights violations, oppression, fatigue, war, and Arma-crazy-geddon. I’m telling you, I’ve had it. This has got to stop!
I look around me and everywhere I see a nation of big consumers. Sure, we gripe about the high price of gas, but we keep buying it. We keep driving wherever we want to or have to go. As a nation, we give generously to charitable causes at home and abroad. We keep buying more iPhones® and Wiis® and the other latest gadgets. We have so much disposable income, we now lag only behind Brazil in per capita elective plastic surgeries. And we have so much good food that we continue to be the fattest people on the planet.
Despite the record federal debt, we remain fabulously wealthy, compared with any time in history and any nation thus far. And yet, all we see are headlines and news stories reporting that the Dow dipped again or the NASDAQ saw its worst day since two-thousand-whatever or the economy is headed for heck in a handbasket, if it hasn’t already arrived. A cautiously optimistic headline like, “Retailers rejoice over a strong May” gets buried like it’s decomposing.
Stop it already! The thoughts and ideas that we entertain the most are the ones that continue to grow. In other words, talk of a good economy encourages more of that good thing. Likewise, endless talk of recession creates recession. Think about it. The last time the economy was great, it just kept getting greater. Remember the famous quote from the first Clinton campaign in ’92, “It’s the economy, stupid”? Well, that was no accident. The economy seemed to take on a fanciful life of its own when everyone noticed how great it was.
When was the last time you saw a good headline about the economy? I have actually seen a few, but they seem to be snatched off the internet headlines like dry laundry off the line, to be replaced with dirty laundry about–what else? Recession.
If you need help, here’s a great story to hang your hat on: Very recently, a couple of my friends decided they wanted to move to another neighborhood. They listed their house with a Realtor® and held an open house on a Saturday. That day, there were 11 showings of the house. By the following Monday evening, they had six-count ’em, six-offers on their house. The best one was considerably higher than the asking price.
2011 update: My sister recently sold her house similarly quickly–listed on Wednesday, open house Saturday, three serious offers on Monday, two of whom got into a little bidding war, and my sister and her husband reaped more than their asking price!
This is not an isolated incident, and yet we hear nothing about it in the news. We must find those happy stories and hang onto them with all our might! Believe me, our might is better spent that way than on sorrier tales.
I’m not asking you to give up all bad news. And I’m certainly not suggesting that you live in a dreamy bubble, ignoring war or famine or people who need your care. All I am saying is, please stop writing and reading and listening to the news stories that say only bad and negative things every blessed day. And when you find a good story, for all our sakes, milk it for all it’s worth!
Remember, as Grandmother said, “This has GOT to stop!”

WHY DID I ATTRACT THIS…
That’s the question we all need to ask all the time.
Many people have seen “The Secret” (and if you haven’t seen it, please go to http://www.thesecret.tv/ and watch it) and have been studying the Law of Attraction, so they’re starting to be conversant in some of those principles.
In my practice as a psychic medium and medical intuitive, I am starting to notice that my clients don’t get the whole picture of just what this attraction thing is.
Simply stated, the Law of Attraction is a law of physics that applies to your life in that what you put your attention on, you attract to you. Most people look at this law like “How can I attract more money/love/etc.?”
And that is great. That is the best use of the Law of Attraction and if you are consistently attracting things, people, relationships, and experiences that please you, I congratulate you! That is fantastic!
Unfortunately, that is not the case for about 98% of us out there. Most of us continue to attract at least a few things that we’re not too crazy about and here’s the kicker: nobody knows they’re doing it.
Just this past week, I have talked to three clients who were actually offended when I suggested that they had attracted experiences into their life that they didn’t like. “Why would I attract THAT?” they demanded. “I don’t want THAT, it’s BAD.”
Right, I get that. I understand that you don’t consciously want car trouble, health problems, bad grades, bad breath, or whatever. Who would?
And that’s exactly why you need to ask, “Why did I attract THIS?” Anything that gets your attention for better or worse, ask the question.
Here’s a dire example. Many people know that my husband died several years ago and left me with two small children to raise and very little life insurance. Why did I attract THAT?
Why indeed. I may never know all the reasons, but I know there are some, probably many, and some of them I do understand. And with some of those larger things (and maybe the small things too), your spirit got together with other spirits to plan some of the important events you wanted in your life as a human.
This is why we sometimes have trouble understanding—we don’t communicate with our own spirits very well. I work to bridge that gap for my clients, helping them communicate with Spirit and understand why they’re here—even when they’re attracting things they don’t like.
Food for thought, eh?

It took me a long time to recognize my abilities as a psychic/mystic/etc., so I sometimes find myself waking up a long-dormant memory to add to my little book of stories. For example, it was only after I started recognizing visits from spirits during my readings that I remembered the feeling I had as a child, that someone—or several someones—were always present. My mother said, “You have such a vivid imagination! What a wonderful quality!” Bless her heart.
Here is the memory that arose today [11/6/2007] . We all remember the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. I didn’t have to look up the date, because it was precisely one week before my husband’s death, so I always remember that anniversary. And on that day, at that exact time, I was in the dentist’s chair, being prepped for a filling. Something was going wrong and my gums would not become numb. Carla, my beloved dentist-friend, waited patiently for the anesthetic to take effect.
Suddenly, I went into panic mode. Flat on my back, I swore to Carla that I was going to pass out. “No, that’s not possible,” Carla soothed. “You’re lying down. You can’t faint.” But something was terribly wrong. Tears filled my eyes as I grasped Carla’s hand. “Something’s wrong,” I whispered through still-sensitive lips.
In a few minutes, I was able to calm down and the anesthetic took effect. The filling was created without further incident. Carla promised never to work on me without nitrous again. I don’t know if that was for her sake or mine!
Shortly after I left the dentist’s office, I learned of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building that killed 168 and left hundreds injured. At some point in the intervening years, it did occur to me that I had some sort of Universal sensation as all those lives ended in terror.

I’m happy to address a topic that has been prominent in my experience lately. That is, how people feel about spending money on themselves.
I have had many clients who are eager to spend their money on my services, and then I have had one or two who say, “I can’t afford that right now.” And you can say that–don’t get me wrong; I am not saying that you can’t say that, but you might not WANT to say that anymore.
It occurred to me that any time my client doesn’t want to spend money on my services, not only is she denying herself something for some reason (we’ll get to that in a minute), but also I am attracting someone who says, “Not right now” to me. And that means that some small part of me is saying, “I’m not worthy of receiving that.”
Very often, when we say we can’t afford it, we are feeling a pinch in some way. And I promise you, it always comes down to whether you feel worthy. If you find yourself thinking something like, “There’s no way I can get any more money than I currently have. My company is not giving any raises right now, and I’ll just be lucky not to get laid off.” Or “my business is not going to get any more customers because the economy is bad right now. I’ll be lucky not to have to close my doors”–then you need a THINK ADJUSTMENT.
You know how very powerful your thoughts are. When you think, “There’s no way,” YOU’RE RIGHT! But when you think, “I don’t know the way yet, but I know there is one,” YOU’RE ALSO RIGHT!
I just decided today to start attracting money to YOU on your behalf. Yes, I can do that. (You can too.) I want to attract a lot of money to you, along with the feeling of worthiness, so that you can spend your money on all that you like and enjoy.
And I want to ask you to do your part. Be open to all possibilities. Allow the idea of solutions and methods existing that you cannot possibly imagine.
“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”
That Shakespeare was a man with a clue.
So remind yourself that you are worthy (even if you don’t feel it) of love, joy, and abundance. Imagine opening your mind and spirit to knew and different ideas. Ask for the opportunity, desire, motivation, and/or idea to DO whatever will bring you what you love and enjoy.
And I will be over here, attracting money and abundance to you

I’ve been talking to you a lot about beliefs lately. I’ve also been thinking about them myself. A lot. Can’t seem to stop. But this is a good thing–it helps me to develop the answers that you need to your questions about… well, everything!
If you read the most recent post (about the OK Corral; see the previous post), it was about beliefs. Essentially, it said that you live (or die) by what you believe.
I’ve been reading and listening to a lot of useful stuff about wealth and creating success and so forth, among them
The Attractor Factor by Dr. Joe Vitale
Money and the Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks (and Abraham)
The Art of Success (audio series) by David Neagle
And all of these discuss beliefs. Breaking down old beliefs, beliefs that will move you forward, etc. But here’s what happened when I asked my own angels for a little favor. I asked them to reveal to me the belief or beliefs that were holding me back from manifesting all that I love and enjoy.
You won’t believe their answer.
Are you ready?
“The only belief that holds you back is the belief that beliefs can hold you back.”
I laughed. And then I got to thinking about it. The teachers are not wrong when they say your limiting beliefs hold you back. But if you didn’t believe them, they would be.
I don’t know about you, but I think I need to take a couple of Tylenol. Or a stiff drink.
Now, think about it, and see what it means to you. And until next time, y’all be good!

Welcome to my ghost story. For a medium, I don’t have a lot of experience with earth-bound spirits or ghosts. Most of my conversations with spirits are with those on the Other Side. But each time I encounter a ghost, I learn a little more about how they operate. This story is about the first time I met one. (That I am aware of…)
I was touring a real Southern plantation in Louisiana a few years ago. It had been developed in the late 1700s, and had been owned by the same family through all those generations until shortly before I went to tour it. In the year or so before, the family had donated the remaining assets to the National Parks Department, so our tour guide was a park ranger.
We toured most of the buildings on the property, and wound up in the main house. It wasn’t all that big, for what you would think of a major plantation, one that was a working farm for over 200 years, complete with its own store, blacksmith, etc. The house had been updated with electricity and running water, of course, because it was occupied by family members continuously. And the kitchen had been “decorated”, to use the term loosely, in a 1970s style. Most of the furniture had been removed while the Parks Department restored the house.
The ranger guided us into a side room and told us about the use of that room. It had three doors, two interior and one exterior. I was standing near a wall between the two interior doors, when I felt someone walk up behind me, over my left shoulder. You know how it feels when someone walks up behind you, right? You can feel an energy there.
I glanced over my shoulder. There were about 20 people on the tour, so I just glanced to see who it was. There was no one there. Someone came through the door about 12 feet behind me, and I turned back to the ranger. But I still felt someone there, so I looked again. Still no one.
So I asked in my mind, “Hello, who’s there?” And I immediately got an image of an old photograph. It featured a Captain from the Union Army of the Civil War. And I knew that’s who was standing behind me. But he was a Yankee…?
I asked him to tell me more, and he said he was actually a gentleman, not a career military man, and he was doing his duty in the war. He indicated that he returned to this plantation after the war and lived out his life there. I assumed, although I don’t think he told me this, that he returned for a woman and probably married her.
The tour continued, and we found ourselves in the main living room. A man in the tour group spoke up and said he was related to the family that owned the plantation. He said his grandmother had grown up in this very house and had been married in this very living room.
He told us that, during the Civil War, the Yankees burned the plantation down the road, but they occupied this house and spared the property. I asked, “So there were Yankees in the house?” And he said, yes.
That part was pretty cool, but I was still kind of wondering what this meant, and if I really had a ghost with me or… was this an encounter with a spirit who has crossed over? I talk to those energies often, but this one came with that presence over my left shoulder.
As the ranger led us out of the house and onto the porch, I noticed that the energy left me, just as I crossed the threshold, as if the ghost couldn’t cross it. Later, I talked to someone with a lot of experience with ghosts and he said that was definitely a ghost and his behavior was typical.
Well, how about that?
