Why can’t psychics avoid natural disasters?

Guest blogger Erin Pavlina brings us today’s post.  This was originally posted on her blog January 27, 2006.  I think it’s a wonderful answer to a typical question about psychics and other intuitives. –Susan K.

Question: If psychics are really psychic then how come they get stuck in natural disasters. Don’t they know they’re coming? – Jim

Answer: What you’re really asking is if people can predict or know the future then how could they ever be in an earthquake or other disaster, and wouldn’t they even be able to predict their own death and avoid it, right? Being “psychic” is a lot like having a radio. You have to turn it on, then turn it to a frequency that’s receiving particularly well, and listen. You don’t always get a message that says, “Earthquake, 3:21am, San Francisco, January 31, 2006, you might want to be in Aruba…” Sometimes the message is just intuitive like, “Something is going to happen to shake up this city, and soon. I can feel it coming. Maybe now’s a good time to go visit my sister in Chicago.”

Keeping your “radio” on all the time is taxing, and usually pointless. Do you really need spiritual guidance to tell you when you need to use the bathroom? Also, if you’re not focused on a strong, clear frequency you get a lot of static, and who wants to listen to that all day. Next time you’re in your car, tune your radio to a station that’s between two others and see how long you leave YOUR radio on.

The other reason that psychics don’t always forsee doom is because they’re not supposed to know. Sometimes things that most of us would conclude are “bad” are really “good” things in disguise. Sometimes bad things are the only way good things can come about. If we had psychics running around telling people to evacuate cities before major disasters then the universe would just find some other way of teaching us our lessons. Now, if we learn our lessons faster, maybe the earth will stop shaking. That’s something to work on!  (5-31-10)

The Opportunity to Be of Service

5249_2_Proof RED borderI recently chatted with a fellow intuitive and “woo-woo”, my friend Jenna, about what we were grateful for and especially about little hidden gifts on which we might shine the light of gratitude.

For example, Jenna chooses to live in an apartment right now, a pretty nice place to boot.  “Some people want a house,” she said, “but I have a different attitude.  I look around and see all of the people who work for me!  The landscaper and the porter…  If something breaks, I simply ask, and it’s taken care of.  Like magic!  It’s absolutely luxurious!”

I loved that attitude!  Not only is she enjoying her life right now, this moment, and finding great things to appreciate, but she recognizes how she supports others.

Let me explain further:  I told Jenna about my amazing neighbor, a married man about my age who has always been a bit finicky about his yard.  He likes everything to look nice.  Several years ago, he allowed that to flow over into my yard, and started taking care of my front yard, with nary a word to me!

He now has a yard service, which he pays to include my yard with his!  Now, granted, my front yard is small, and it is directly adjacent to his.  I told Jenna that I don’t know if he does it because he feels sorry for me, the poor little widow-woman, or if he just can’t bear to have my yard go to seed right next to his, but I am so grateful for his help.  (I really hate yardwork and don’t even have the tools to mow!)

Jenna reminded me that of course I energetically am worthy of this lovely gift from the Universe for probably several reasons.  When I said, “I occasionally give him a little something, like a Starbucks or some cookies, but he never asks for anything in return.  What have I done for him really?”

I could hear the smile in Jenna’s voice as she said,  “You have given him the opportunity to be of service.”

Wow!

There is a constant give and take, a cycle of giving and receiving throughout the Universe.  If you don’t participate in receiving, you won’t find much being given to you.  In this example, my neighbor gives and I receive the yard work, then I give and he receives the opportunity to be of service.

And of course, my next thought is…  “Where can I find more opportunities to be of service?”

Making Sense of that Tweet

twitterLike about half the people I know, I use Twitter. If you’re not aware, Twitter (.com) is a micro-blog site. Each entry is limited to only 140 characters. One of the cool things about it is that you can post links there–in this case, I’m going to post the link to my maxi-blog (this one). Convenient!

I want to explain a Tweet (posting on Twitter) that I posted a while back.  I said, “Love those repeated messages. Thanks to my messengers–I get it!”

I thought that might appear a bit esoteric, so here’s what I meant:

Everything starts with Spirit and your whole life is a presentation of messages that will point you in the best directions to live the life you came here to live. (And it’s beside the point, but nobody came into this life to be miserable. Remember my adage from my days as a wee mystic: If you’re not at least trying to be happy, you’re not doing it right.)

In other words, messages come to you in many and varied forms, including your thoughts and feelings, your body, the people around you, nature, things you read… Anything that catches your attention deserves scrutiny.

SO VERY OFTEN, I find that messages come in duplicate or triplicate. And I know that, just because I noticed something once or twice doesn’t mean that’s the only time I’ve received it. These messages are like roaches. For every one you see, there are hundreds of others that you missed.

Ew. Gross analogy. Anyway, not long ago, I heard the EXACT SAME THING from three different people. One person was my marketing assistant, who told me that she sometimes writes blog entries for her clients. (Not this one, it’s really me.) The next person is a friend, who is a successful copywriter, who told me she started subbing out some press releases. She has a junior copywriter write the first draft, and then she does her magic on it. Saves her a lot of time and effort. The third person showed up last.  She’s a life coach, and she mentioned her blog and how effective it is for her business. She said that she had tried a service that writes the blog for the blogger, then she would edit it to make it her own.

Do these three messages sound almost identical? This happens to me ALL THE TIME–and guess what. It happens to you all the time too! You’ve probably become somewhat immune to it. And that’s why I’m telling you this now. Start paying attention.

For my clients, when I talk about paying attention to the messages, I sometimes use an example about seeing and hearing frogs. Two frogs? You’d better listen up. Three frogs? Now you’ve got something really important.

So will my next blog post be ghost-written??? Well, I really like writing, so I don’t know, but it could happen. I got the message!

Entrepreneurs: The New Marketing

As far as I can tell, I’m the only one talking about this so far.  Naturally, I want to go on record as the first!

This is about marketing, so if you’re an entrepreneur (or thinking of becoming one), listen up!

First of all, recognize that we are in a period of the re-emergence of the divine feminine.  That link is to a video of the same name.  You might want to check it out!

This means that the whole planet is coming back into balance, after many centuries of being more than a little masculine-heavy.  Check out the video for examples.  For our purposes here, I’m talking about what this means to marketing.

Think about it–the way goods and services are sold today comes mostly from advertising and marketing standards that were established in the ’30s and ’40s by men to sell to men.  That means the techniques tell the potential customer to buy for reasons like this:  It will make you seem more powerful!  It will make your wife (or other women) want to have sex with you!  It will make you feel like a man!

Don’t believe me?  Look at car commercials.  They are the boldest example of the last vestiges of cave-man advertising.  (Sorry, guys–it’s probably insulting to you too!)

However, these days, about 80% of all purchasing decisions in the U.S. are made by women, including cars and men’s clothes.  If you are selling (marketing, offering, whatever) now, you are mostly selling to women.  And women don’t care if their husbands will sleep with them–of course they will!  Women have that deal taken care of.

So what do women care about?  Well, speaking as a woman myself, my favorite thing in the world is to sit around and chat.  And than means… anybody?  CONNECTING.

Women are all about connecting.  We like to FEEL something, we like to empathize and sympathize, and we like to hear stories about people like us–or people who are different from us.  And we like to help.

Why do charities that help children in foreign countries show pictures of the children and tell their stories?  “Ana never knew her mother.  Her father died of dysentery after serving most of Ana’s life in the defeated army.  Ana would like to go to school.  She dreams of someday becoming someone just like you.  Help her to do that.”

Why?  Because that’s what women respond to.

This is the New Marketing.  And this is why social media are so important to business owners right now.  Establish a personality on Facebook and Twitter.  Share your story and/or the stories of your clients.  You don’t have to pull on their heartstrings and manipulate them (like the charity example above–sorry for the cheese).  You just have to be honest.  Here’s an example:

“Here’s my client, Ana.  When we started working together, Ana had been in the same dead-end job for 10 years.  Her children were recently grown and had flown the coop.  Ana’s husband had lost his job, and Ana was starting to wonder what the rest of her life would be like.

“After only two months in the XYZ course, Ana discovered that she was more content, felt better physically, and found herself looking forward to work every day.  Another month later, and a great new job offer had landed in her lap.

“Today, Ana works in my company!  She left that great job, because she loved the work we had done together so much, she wanted to help other people the way she had been helped.  Now, she not only looks forward to work every day, she knows she is making a difference in other people’s lives.”

If you’re a woman, I know you can see how much better that is to you than, “Buy this!  It’ll make you irresistible to men!”

And if you’re a man, you might also see its value, but if not, just trust me.

There will be MUCH more about the New Marketing, but this is a great start.  Just remember to give me, your friend, the credit I deserve.  ;o)

Recent Downloads

YESS bestI used to call them “messages from the Cosmos”.  Sometimes, I still call them that, or messages from my angels, or maybe even downloads.

The idea is that a thought comes to me that feels like a message from one or more unseen helpers.  And this is how I do a lot of my work for others, but right now I’m just talking about the downloads that come to me “free”, without being FOR anyone in particular.  Oh, sometimes they are for me, but more often, they are for me to SHARE.

It’s my job.  It’s what I do.

And here are the recent ones:

  • An image of me with my arms up and out, my head thrown back in triumphant joy, and a brilliant light emanating from my middle.  I “looked” (psychically) at other people, and saw that they had the same pose and the same light.  From this, I realized that we are all the same, just as we are all one.  I used to think that I somehow had more of something spiritual, and this showed me that we all have it–and my job is to help others to see or understand it too.  Cool!
  • We are “constant beings.”  This is different from “eternal beings” (which we also are).  “Constant beings” means that we always have ALL of the spirit-God-higher-self-Universe-love-power-force within at all times.  That part never changes.  What shifts is our use and understanding of it.
  • “You’ll know.”  Well, maybe this one was just for me.  I’m not sure yet.  But if you feel that it’s for you, it truly is.  And I thought it couldn’t hurt to tell you that, because if you learn to trust your inner guidance, you WILL know.

More downloads as they are received!

Until next time, y’all be good!  (5-11-10)

Antithesis of the Atheist

The other day, a friend jokingly called me an atheist.  I have to say, I took umbrage.

As tolerant as I am, and as much as I believe that everyone is entitled to whatever religious, philosophical, and spiritual ideas he may have, I have never understood atheism.  It doesn’t make sense to me.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.  First, I want to define atheism.  “A” means “without” and “the-” means “god”.  Thus, “atheism” means literally “without god”.  (I used the lower-case, because atheism does not refer only to “the” god, but any god.)

It follows that “polytheism” means a belief in many gods, such as the ancient Greeks and the modern-day Hindu religion.  “Monotheism” pertains to a belief in one god.

And on a related topic, “agnostic” means “without knowledge”.  You may have heard of the Gnostic gospels, several versions of the Christ story that were written by the Gnostics, those who were “with knowledge” or “knowledgeable”.

But I digress.  Regardless of these definitions, I am certainly not “without god”.  I am among the most spiritual people I know!  I don’t usually define myself, but please don’t call me an atheist!

Years ago, I had some oddball neighbors who were loudly-proclaimed atheists.  They went as far as to create their own religion around atheism, by producing a weekly online radio show about it.  I wondered what they talked about!  Maybe that was more like anti-theism!

At any rate, I always wanted to say to them:  If you love someone, you cannot possibly be an atheist, because love is God and God is love.

Now I have a whole lot more that I could say about GOD, but as long as you know I am the antithesis of an atheist… my work is done for now!
